Hello, hello again! You probably already saw a short summary of myself here. But I think it wouldn’t hurt to have a proper introduction post to give you more ideas of how I will manage this blog based on where I am coming from and things in that fashion. To fill that purpose, watch me answer the five questions that shaped my movie journey in the short interview below.
Q: Let’s talk a little bit about yourself, who are you?
A: I hope it doesn’t become too repetitive, but feel free to call me with either Cinephile Dimsum, Noa (take it as my pen name!), or any names as long as it is not disrespectful in any way. I am an Indonesian living abroad, and I love, love, love watching films; both movies and series.
Q: When did you first realize that you have an interest in films?
A: Since I was a kid, I have been watching films. From cartoons that I watched when I was home, and to all kinds of movies that I got to see in cinemas when I already got older. Back then, I didn’t think much whether I like watching films or it was just one of the activities I did to fill my free time. As time went by, I learned that I love watching films.
Q: How do films fit into your life?
A: I see films as a way to travel to different environments without leaving my house, or my room, even. When I watch something, I feel like I am being transported to a universe where their story exists. Through movies, I see a lot of new things, I get to stand on various perspectives, and enjoy the different experiences that I could gain from every one of them. Films make me feel things; things that I never experienced before, things that have happened to me before, things that I finally come to understand through the journey of seeing it from the spectator’s point of view; films really make me feel a lot, for the better or for worse, mostly better.
Q: What types of films do you love the most?
A: Though my interest leans more to Asian films, I also like anything that comes from other origins, as long as I find the plot intriguing. When it comes to genres, it is really difficult to specify only one, but my utmost favorite will be coming-of-age or moving relationship stories, based on my most watched on my Letterboxd account. Other genres that I find really intriguing are true-crime, thriller (but horror? not really…), and animation.
Q: What can we expect to see on your blog?
A: In here, I will write inserts revolving around movies and series that I watched. But please don’t expect any proper reviews with a lot of technical terms in them. I mostly will write however I feel like. The most common will be how they make me feel in general, and my writing will look rather aimless. I hope you wouldn’t mind, and I hope my writing could encourage you to start feeling as well, at anything that could move you.
So…, that’s a wrap! Thank you for tuning in and reading everything thoroughly. It is my first time having a heartfelt conversation like this, and I can say that I like how it makes me feel. Phew– public speaking, might need to practice more on that.
Before I forget, I sometimes write excerpts too, and they are featured in my X account (feel free to befriend me there!). Most of them are just fruits of my own thoughts after watching or listening to something, just floating things and scenarios in my head. Feel free to give them a peek if you want! I will try to embed them in my posts as well whenever it is deemed fit. For now, ciao!
